(and i'll tell ya right now for some frickin' reason all my links are broken...so you'll have to copy and paste until i figure somethin' out)
last friday (9-25) i saw Cage the Elephant and Manchester Orchestra at The Revolution Room in Little Rock. the Silversun Pickups were headlining but we left before they had even finished taking down Manchester Orchestra's stuff. i went strickly for Manchester Orchestra.
now, i only kinda liked Cage the Elephant before friday. i thought they were pretty "eh." i downloaded their CD back in '08 when it came out but never listened to it, seriously. downloaded it on my family's computer but never even extracted it from the .zip. they all of sudden started gettin' played on the radio this summer, which i'm guessing is because of their letterman performance back in july i think. so i re-downloaded their album on my laptop. and i liked it pretty good. before the show i said something like "these guys are good and i like 'em but i know their show is gonna blow me away and i'm gonna end up really liking them."
and i was right.
second song into the set ("tiny little robots") matt was already in the crowd. their set was great. during "in one ear" he got back in the crowd and worked his way back to the steps and climbed up the little railing and held on to the pole and hit one of the big red lights on purpose. when matt got back on stage he said "last time we played here we got kicked out of the venue. i still remember the venue name....true story." the crowd got really into "ain't no rest for the wicked." they played a new song called "indie kids" they said it was "for all the coooool kids out there" i found this pretty funny because we were at a silversun pickups show. i really liked the song.
full set:
Dr. Dr. Dr.
Tiny Little Robots
Lotus
Aberdeen
Back Against the Wall
Japanese "something?"
Free Love
Indie Kids
Ain't No Rest For the Wicked
In One Ear
Saber-tooth Tiger
also if the bassist was left handed...kurt cobain.
these guys put on a great show and i'm thinkin' their next album will be good.

next up was Manchester Orchestra. i was so excited. they set up their stuff and people were saying stuff like "two drum kits whaaaa?" yeah. they're that awesome. they came out and just started playing.
full set:
Pride
Shake it Out
In My Teeth
I've Got Friends
Everything to Nothing
The River
The Only One
after "The River" everyone but Andy and Chris left the stage. Johnathon got back up there too. they played "The Only One." i was really happy this happened because i could see the set list and it only had the six songs listed. i was a little sad when i saw there weren't any songs off "I'm Like A Virgin Losing A Child" but when "Pride" started i was fine, i knew it was gonna be an amazing show.
at one point Andy threw his hat off and grabbed the mic,
it reminded me a lot of Isaac Brock starting at about 3:02 pretty much till the end.
after the show i didn't try to find anyone from the bands. we walked right by Jonathan, Chris, and Matt (from Cage the Elephant). i didn't say anthing. i should have. atleast something generic like "great show."
check these guys out now:

not my cup of tea. but i give props to kids who actually go through with forming a band. especially locally. keepin' the little rock scene alive.

LISTEN TO MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA
anywhooo
Somethin’ filled up
my heart with nothin’,
someone told me not to cry.
But now that I’m older,
my heart’s colder,
and I can see that it’s a lie.
Children wake up,
hold your mistake up,
before they turn the summer into dust.
If the children don’t grow up,
our bodies get bigger but our hearts get torn up.
We’re just a million little god’s causin rain storms turnin’ every good thing to rust.
I guess we’ll just have to adjust.
With my lighnin’ bolts a glowin’
I can see where I am goin’ to be
when the reaper he reaches and touches my hand.
With my lighnin’ bolts a glowin’
I can see where I am goin’
With my lighnin’ bolts a glowin’
I can see where I am go-goin’
You better look out below!
